ISS 45th International Spring Fair

One and a half days were spent promoting Venezuelan crafts from Merida, Lara and Barinas

The annual Spring Fair has been held every spring in London since 1958, with almost all the Embassies and High Commissions taking part. It has become known as "The Diplomats' Fair", where visitors can sample and buy goods from around the world. It is divided into two areas, one where countries exhibit their products and the other, where people can relax and sample food and beverages from all over the world.

This year the Fair was held at Kensington Town Hall, Hornton Street, London W8. We were open to the public on 14th May, from 11:30 to 17:30. This is a charity event and all the funds raised go to International Social Service UK (ISS UK) to help to unite families who have become separated as a result of conflict or disaster.

Venezuela

What the papers said
This year Arte Venezuela represented Venezuela. Lisbeth was aided by Gloria Carnevali, the Cultural Attaché and Gabriella Toro, the wife of Venezuelan ambassador Alfredo Toro-Hardy. Also manning the stand were Rosa Mendez de Sayer and Margo, a long-standing member of the embassy staff.

There were over 100 stalls from all over the world. We were neighbours of Panama and Nicaragua on the first floor.. Everyone who viewed the stand was impressed by the beauty and variety of the goods on show and sales were made to the public, diplomats and to other dealers in Latin-American artesania.

All the artists represented made sales.

Angels from Nelly Rangel were bought by another dealer in Latin-American artesania, and will soon be seen in Guatemala as well as London and Manchester.

Pedro Reyes' taparas caused great interest and Nemate's glassware sold well.

We have a very few cards from Nedelka left so please go to the La_Tienda to snap up the few that remain.

Also available online are ornaments from la Caracola workshop

Marc Flallo's picture frames can be viewed in the Manchester branch of Arte Venezuela at 14 Old Hall Lane, M19 2AJ. Please call 0161 225 8176 for a viewing.
